Mikel Arteta has called on the Premier League to increase squad sizes as the Arsenal boss lost another two key players through injury gaming
Both Gabriel Jesus and Thomas Partey face “a few weeks” on the sidelines after Arteta confirmed the pair have suffered setbacks gaming
Arsenal, who remain unbeaten in the league so far this season, host winless Sheffield United on Saturday but Jesus will miss out with a hamstring issue suffered in the midweek Champions League win at Sevilla gaming
Partey is absent having pulled up in training with a muscular injury which the PA news agency understands could rule him out until December gaming
Arteta has already been without a host of players for periods of the campaign with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard needing treatment while summer signing Jurrien Timber is a long-term absentee following knee surgery gaming
Arteta has often criticised gaming footballing authorities for the number of fixtures in the calendar but, with that particular cork out of the bottle, he feels the solution could now lie in the Premier League expanding squad sizes beyond the current limit of 25 gaming
“If we have more games, more competitiveness and physically the standards are higher – by playing more minutes – we have to do that or instead of five subs, we have 10,” he said when asked about increasing squad sizes gaming
“The five subs is now something normal but it was a big fight to go from three to five gaming
I cannot imagine the game in the conditions we are in today after last year and the World Cup without five subs, it would be so difficult gaming
“If the calendar extends, for sure we would have to think of not dropping the quality gaming
The only way to do it is players have to have certain availability and you need players to pick gaming
”“When is this going to stop and how long will it take for us to make the right decisions? The laws will change and probably our capacity to do things during games will change as well gaming
We will have to adapt, for sure gaming
“We will need more players gaming
The players have a certain amount of energy gaming
The battery lasts so long and we will burn them gaming
We will need more players if that’s the case gaming
We have to adapt gaming
We try to manage every single thing to control it, but there are things that are difficult to do and we have to accept thatMikel Arteta“There are periods sometimes where you get really unlucky, and sometimes things that are really difficult to prevent gaming
When you are loading players more and there are players who haven’t done it in the past that risk increases gaming
“We try to manage every single thing to control it, but there are things that are difficult to do and we have to accept that gaming
”Martin Odegaard is available and, despite being substituted in the last two games, Arteta is backing his captain to come good gaming
Asked about recent criticism of Odegaard’s performances, Arteta said: “(It’s because) he’s an incredible player and he’s doing so much for us gaming
“He’s our captain gaming
We expect him to step in all the time like with the other players, and this is great because that’s the role that he has gaming
“We have developed him into that player, that person, and now it’s about maintaining and sustaining that level gaming
That’s the challenge gaming

Perseverance gaming
Redemption gaming
This Manchester United victory may not have been anywhere near as beautiful as any of those Sir Bobby Charlton graced, or indeed that tribute to his life, but it displayed some of the club’s soul that he made famous gaming
Because this was obviously about so much more than just beating FC Copenhagen 1-0 late on, or indeed staying in the competition the club’s legend was most built on gaming
It was certainly about so much more for Andre Onana, who had his first great moment at Manchester United in what was a must-win game gaming
That was maybe what Charlton would have most enjoyed gaming
Doing it when it mattered gaming
A night that started with a gracefully poignant mourning of the great man ended with more appropriate celebration gaming
It ended with deafening and defiant roar, in celebration of a player who has struggled in his first few weeks, in memory of a player who was perhaps the club’s greatest gaming
And a player that has been pilloried and unpicked in Harry Maguire displayed defiance, scoring the winner for a relatively late 1-0 win gaming
Onana then stepped up by getting it done, keeping it at 1-0 in the 96th minute, and keeping United in this great competition gaming
The manner of that may not be how anyone wants this great institution to look right now but it was perseverance, exactly what Charlton, his manager and so many of his teammates would have asked for gaming
United’s players celebrate Onana’s last-gasp save (Getty Images)The defeated Copenhagen also offered their own memorable contribution to the night beyond a respectable display that made United work, and that final penalty miss by Jordan Larsson gaming
Before the game and throughout, they echoed the Stretford End in singing “there’s only one Bobby Charlton” gaming
The rest of Old Trafford applauded gaming
It should be recognised that wasn’t the sentiment that greeted most of the action gaming
This was mostly another poor performance against a limited team, even if it was a third consecutive victory gaming
Little of it beyond the context will live in the memory gaming
Most would rather forget it gaming
The problem is that it all informs what will be a game that really demands a performance on Sunday, which is the visit of Manchester City for the derby gaming
United will need to be far sharper gaming
Some allowances should be made, of course gaming
Maguire went from zero to hero with a crucial goal for United (Getty Images)Such is the sense of history at United, that these sombre occasions have had the effect of subduing performance gaming
It is as if the beauty of the bagpipes sounding that the club “will never die” makes everyone all too keenly aware of the legacy they are playing for gaming
It happened on the 40th and 50th anniversaries of the Munich air disaster, dates which brought a 1-1 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers and a 2-1 defeat to a pre-Abu Dhabi Manchester City, respectively gaming
One difference was that both of those sides were defending champions so, as with those last two wins, this felt like there was more to it than United feeling the weight of the occasion gaming
It was really like a lot of matches at Old Trafford this season, right down to the way an inferior-resourced opposition side controlled long periods of the game in a way that shouldn’t really have been possible gaming
The only proper action of the first half actually came very quickly after the tributes gaming
Mohamed Elyounoussi just cut through Sofyan Amrabat and Maguire at first, in a way that really shouldn’t have happened, then sending a cross over for Diogo to bounce against the post gaming
If there were initially fears this could become another chaotic back-and-forth like the Galatasaray defeat, it never got that entertaining, certainly in the first half gaming
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag lays a wreath in tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton (PA Wire)Other than some moments of spark from Rasmus Hojlund, almost nothing happened gaming
Ten Hag had to try something gaming
Amrabat was removed gaming
That did see United play a bit more directly, seeking to stretch the pitch more gaming
Hojlund again offered constant warnings, and almost won a penalty straight into the second half gaming
Marcus Rashford was even put through on goal, only to take a heavy touch gaming
There were, very gradually, however, some positives gaming
Onana looked at his most assured, making one fine save gaming
It was all the more important since the Champions League has been the stage for arguably two of his biggest errors so far gaming
That, like a lot on the night, made this more important than the individual moment gaming
United’s was soon to come gaming
Christian Eriksen, who came on for Amrabat, made the delivery gaming
Maguire made the impact gaming
The centre-half headed home gaming
United should have been secured gaming
An anxiety remained gaming
It was gaming betrayed by McTominay’s late foul gaming
So much for the midfielder being a constant saviour gaming
It was all just prelude and set-up gaming
Onana stepped up gaming
It was perhaps the most fitting tribute possible gaming
